Chief calls for refurbishment of Yaa Asantewaa Museum

Sreso-Tinpom (Ash), Oct 27, GNA - The Chief of Sreso-Timpom in the Atwima-Mponua District, Nana Frimpong Manso III, has appealed to the District Assembly to refurbish the Yaa Asantewaa Museum to boost its tourist attraction.

He said he was confident that if given the needed attention, the Museum could help bring in more revenue to the assembly. The legendary Yaa Asantewaa of Ejisu, credited with leading the Asantes to war against the powerful British Army in the 1900s and took refuge at Sreso-Timpon, a predominantly cocoa farming community, before she was bundled out of the country together with Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Agyeman Prempeh I, to the Seychelles Island.

Some of her personal items whilst in hiding are being kept at the Museum, which has not seen any repairs since its construction 17 years ago. Nana Frimpong Manso made the appeal when the District Chief Executive, Mrs Theresa Adomako Tawiah, paid a visit. The Chief also called for the rehabilitation of the feeder road linking Akobraso with the Nyinahin-Sreso Trunk Road to ensure the easy transportation of the huge stockpile of foodstuffs and cocoa. Additionally, the Junior High School (JHS) Block should be put into good shape and the local Ibadia Islamic Kindergarten roofed. Mrs Adomako-Tawiah urged the people to avoid child labour and see to it that children of school going age are in school.

They should also live in total peace and harmony. The DCE counselled those who had not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to do so to enable them to have access to quality health care. Mrs Tawiah later visited Bayerebon Number Three, Akobraso, Kojo-Fordjourkrom and Bayerebon Number Two. 27 Oct. 09
