He said Global Services Limited (GSL), a Nigerian company, would put up the plant with backing from ECOWAS and some funding from the World Bank. Mr Tornyeava told the GNA that phosphate, the main component, would be imported about 30 kilometers away from Togo and that the company had expressed interest in going into food processing as well. He said GSL managers had recently visited Keta and that plans had reached an advanced stage.

Mr Tornyeava said while in Keta the managers, led by GSL Chief Executive, Mr Yusif Abbdul Salam, had further discussions with the assembly and other local stakeholders.

Mr Tornyeava said the initial investment on the project in the first six months of constructional work would be about 600 million dollars, including a warehouse at Anlo-Afiadenyigba and a jetty with a conveyer belt at Keta to facilitate the movement of phosphate.

He said an initial 1,000 workforce would be engaged during the takeoff of the company and this would increase to 3,000 within five years.
