Efutu Constituency launches Educational Fund

Winneba, 19 Sept. GNA- As part of his contribution towards education in his constituency, Mr. Mike Hammah, Member of Parliament for Effutu, in the Central Region has instituted an Educational Trust Fund. The fund dubbed MiHa (Mike Hammah ) Educational Trust Fund, would seek to cater for the educational needs of the needy but brilliant students in the constituency.

Launching the fund on Saturday, Mr. Hammah pledged that a substantial amount of his share of the common fund was injected into the fund in order to sustain it and called on all to donate to the fund since government alone could not shoulder the cost of education in the area.

He urged parents to take great interest in the education of their wards since it was one of the best investments that they could ever make.

Mr. Hammah, who is also the Minister of Transport, said it was the vision of the Mills administration to ensure that education was accessible to all children since it formed the bedrock to the development of the country.

Professor Kolawole Raheem, Chairman of the Fund, praised the PM for the initiative adding that it demonstrated his selfless nature in ensuring that less fortunate ones also got quality education. According to him, the Board of Trustee of the Fund would ensure that any student who is selected as a beneficiary would be supported till completion of his or her education.

Professor Raheem said selection process of beneficiaries would be transparent in order to ensure that those who were really in need were selected.

Mrs. Sally Coleman, Director of Education for Efutu, appealed to the governing board to come out with some measures that would motivate teachers to give off their best. She hoped that with the inception of the fund, Efutu would realise a general improvement in the education of its children. About 20,000 new Ghana cedis was realised at the function. 19 Sept.09
