Introduce the study of Nkrumah's ideas in the school curriculum

Koforidua, Sept. 19, GNA - The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has called for the introduction of the study of the ideas and vision of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President, into the school curriculum from the basic to the tertiary level. He explained that the ideas and vision of Dr Kwame Nkrumah were still relevant to the development of Ghana and Africa in general, 50 years after he pronounced them, and stressed that those ideas could serve as the basis for the future development of the African continent. Mr Ampofo was speaking at the singing ceremony of the One Ghana Unity Flag, at Koforidua, on Saturday.

The flag is parading the regional capitals as part of activities to mark the Centenary of the birth of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. The flag, which has travelled across seven regions, is expected to arrive in the Volta Region by Sunday and be in Accra on Monday, September 21, the exact birthday of Dr Nkrumah.

Mr Ampofo called on the young generation to let anniversary unite all and advised them to stop fighting saying, what the country needed was to fight hunger, poverty, illiteracy and ignorance. Dr Abu Sakara, the running mate of the presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) in the 2008 presidential elections, said the centenary celebration highlights the fact that Ghana was born out of unity.

He thanked President John Evans Atta Mills for honouring Dr Nkrumah in his own country and explained that, in most cases, heroes like Dr Nkrumah were not recognized in their own countries. Dr Sakara said Dr Nkrumah's vision for African unity would make the continent's presence be felt among the community of nations. 19 Sept. 09
