Takoradi sign unity flag

Takoradi, Sept 19, GNA - The One Ghana Unity Flag, which has been parading the country, as part of the celebration of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's centenary anniversary, has arrived at Takoradi. The parade of the national flag, which has already been to Wa, Bolgatanga, Tamale, Sunyani and Kumasi, is to symbolise the need for peace. During its rounds, people are made to sign on it as their endorsement of peace.

Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister, after signing, said that people needed to understand the life of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and know how peaceful he lived.

"Dr. Kwame Nkrumah always preached peace and the unification of the country so we need to unite for its rapid development," he said. He noted that the recent conflicts in the Northern part of the country did not auger well for development and urged the people of Bawku, especially, to give peace a chance and unite for development. Mr. Anastas Anderson, Director of Infinite Communications Limited, organisers of the parade, claimed that, "signing on the national flag to demonstrate peace and unity is definitely better than organising musical concerts that everyone would forget afterwards." "Generations to come will see this and acknowledge the love Ghanaians have for each other."

The flag was opened to dignitaries and the public to sign. 19 Sept. 09
