8 Robbers Attack MP

DAILY GUIDE has gathered reports that about eight men, wielding guns and machetes, last Saturday night stormed the Accra residence of the MP for Lower West Akim, Ms. Gifty Klenam, and embarked on a swift but traumatic robbery operation during which they held every living soul in the house at gunpoint.

The robbers reportedly locked up the MP’s children in a room, seized all mobile phones in the house and threatened to pump a few bullets into the skull of any member of the household who would attempt to raise an alarm.

They succeeded in taking away an amount of GH¢25,000 and every other money in the house including coins. They also went away with laptops and other electronic gadgets, jewelry, ornaments, interior decoration and every ‘stealable’ item. No one was shot or hurt, though.

The 39-year-old female legislator said the GH¢25, 000 was a loan she took and that it was not her personal money.

Gifty Klenam entered Parliament in January this year on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is the third Minority MP to have been attacked in Rambo style by gun-wielding armed robbers during the last couple of months.

Quite recently, four armed men stormed the East Legon residence of the Kwadaso NPP MP, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, pointed a gun at his head and ransacked the entire house while he was watching television with his family.

The robbers took away cash, laptops and other valuable items before they drove away in a vehicle belonging to a friend who had visited the MP.

In the middle of last month, the NPP MP for Atwima Mponua, Isaac Asiamah, fell victim to armed robbers when his residence at Community 8 was attacked and ransacked.

The cases have been reported to the police but no arrests have been made yet.
