Egypt celebrates 57th revolution anniversary

Accra, July 25, GNA - The Egyptian Embassy on Friday evening celebrated the 57th Anniversary of the country's revolution that overthrew King Farouk I, leading to the abolishment of the constitutional monarchy and the establishment of a republican state. The revolution began with a military coup d'etat on July 23, 1952 by a group of young army officers who named themselves "The Free Officers Movement".

The success of the revolution inspired numerous Arab and African countries to undergo a similar exercise to remove what they believed to be corrupt regimes.

Mr Seif Allah Mostafa Nosseir, Egyptian Ambassador commended Ghana for the professional manner that she handled Election 2008 even though the results were too close to call.

He said relations between Ghana and Egypt began 50 years ago and pledged his country's commitment to continue with the good bond to the mutual benefit of both countries.

He said the 1984 Bilateral Technical Co-operation Agreement, which was renewed in 1998 allowed Egypt to provide Ghana with doctors and teachers as well as various technical training courses on agriculture, health, policing, nursing among other things. Mr Nosseir expressed the hope that successive anniversaries would help to strengthen the long lasting and cordial relations between the two countries. Mr Alhassan Azong, Minister of State at the Presidency in charge of Public Sector Reforms reiterated Ghana's commitment to strengthen the bilateral relations. Mr Azong said the level of economic co-operation and commercial exchanges between the two countries had increased $150 million margin. He commended Egypt for her mediation role and readiness to help bring peace to the Middle East as well as Palestine and Israel. 25 July 09
