AM Summit opens in Egypt

Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), July 15, GNA - President John Atta Mills on Wednesday joined other Heads of State to participate in the 15th Summit of the Heads of State and Governments of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) which opened on Wednesday at the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the Chairman of the Movement, opened the two-day conference that is on the theme "International Solidarity for Peace and Development."

The summit would discuss the current global and financial crisis and at its plenary sessions adopt the agenda for the Summit and the Report of the out-going chair, Cuba for the period 2006- 2009. It would also elect a bureau and discuss the work of the Movement as well as admit new members and observers. The Summit was preceded by meetings of senior officials on July 11 and 12 and Foreign Ministers' meeting on July 13 and 14. President Mills, who is attending the summit for the first time since his inauguration last January would make a statement, and hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Summit.
