Questions on allocation of tractors to gov't officials

Accra, July 6, GNA - Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF), a pressure group, on Monday gave President John Evans Atta Mills, a three-week ultimatum to set up a commission of inquiry into the allocation of tractors to underprivileged farmers and sale of state vehicles to some government officials.

Mr Richard Nyamah, Spokesperson for the group, speaking to journalists in Accra, alleged there was a clear case of abuse of the process by some government officials who did not qualify to purchase the tractors meant for farmers.

He called on the Presidency to act on its campaign promise of probity, accountability and justice in order to ensure transparency and fair play in the allocation of tractors to deserving farmers. The group urged the commission of inquiry to also investigate all divested state owned enterprises in Ghana since 1989 and how the alleged sales had benefited the nation.
