Central Gonja would soon start projects

Buipe (N/R), June 30, GNA - The Central Gonja District Assembly would embark on a number of development projects, focusing on improvement in healthcare delivery, agriculture and road infrastructure. Mr. Issifu Salisu Be-Awuribe, the District Chief Executive, announced this at the first ordinary session of the Assembly at Buipe. He said the Assembly was liaising with the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to upgrade the Buipe Health Centre into a district hospital to facilitate quality healthcare delivery in the area.

He said mechanization of agriculture would take centre stage in the drive to improve the traditional subsistence farming practices that had little value for the poor farmer and the nation at large, adding that, the Assembly was in touch with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to establish farmer service centres to realize that objective. Mr Be-Awuribe said the existing irrigation facilities in the district would be improved while efforts would also be made to create new ones to enhance dry-season farming. He encouraged the farmers to keep improved breeds of the various livestock in the district to enhance the protein requirements of the people. The DCE said feeder roads in the area would be rehabilitated to facilitate the transportation of farm produce to marketing centres to encourage the farmers to step up their production.
