President Kufuor Off To OAU Summit in Zambia

President Kufuor will travel tonight to the Zambian capital, Lusaka to attend the 37th Summit of the Organisation of African Unity. The summit, which will be preceded by a ministerial session tomorrow, will start on Monday.

Thirty-eight African leaders will attend the summit. Zambia has keenly prepared to host this summit, which will finally transform the OAU into the African Union. The African Union will be based on the idea of the concept of the European Union and is eventually due to have such agencies as a Central bank, a Monetary fund, a Parliament and a Court of Justice.

Meanwhile, most Zambian government ministers have reportedly been told to vacate their residence to make room for the huge delegations attending the summit. Governments attending the summit have also been advised to limit delegations to not more than 30 an ambitious target in a continent where Presidential entourages to summits can easily reach three digit numbers.

The NDC Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, who has been officially nominated by government for the position of Executive Secretary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will be traveling with the presidential delegation to Lusaka.
