Saint Monica's College of Education providing quality training

Mampong (Ash), June 24, GNA - Mr. Asare Ababio, Vice Principal (Academic) of Saint Monica's College of Education at Asante-Mampong, has said the college had made giant strides in the educational development of the country by providing quality female teacher education. This, he noted, is the key to growth, empowerment of women and development of a nation.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Asante-Mampong, he said the college, which is a purely women's college and a diploma awarding institution, was established in 1930 by Anglican Sisters of the Order of the Holy Paraclete in Cape Coast and later transferred to Asante Mampong in 1936.

Mr. Ababio said Saint Monica's dwells on purely Christian principles to its students and has produced God-fearing women whose lives have touched and affected many children in and outside the classroom. "Saint Monica's has been at the forefront of the fight for the emancipation of women in the country", he said.

He said the college's academic performance had been encouraging and since 1997, results of final examination have not fallen below 98 per cent, with great achievements in sporting activities. Mr. Ababio said the college is facing challenges such as inadequate accommodation for staff, standard science laboratory and library, the provision of spacious Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre and rehabilitation of the main road leading to the college. He appealed to the government and stakeholders to put more resources into the college.
