Kufuor leaves Accra for Geneva, Washington

Accra, June 22, GNA - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has left Accra for a 10-day visit to Geneva, Switzerland, and Washington D.C, US.

In Geneva, the former President would address a conference by the Global Humanitarian Forum, founded in 2007 by Dr. Kofi Annan former UN Secretary General.

These were contained in a statement signed by Mr. Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson for former President Kufuor, and made available to GNA on Sunday.

It said the forum was an international humanitarian arena that sought to formulate dialogue and broker partnership that would strengthen the international community's ability to address more efficiently current and emerging challengers.

The theme for this year's event is "Human Impact of Climate Change".

The statement said: "From Geneva, former President Kufuor would attend the second session of the high-level Commission on Modernisation of the World Bank, formed early this year."

It said the 12-member body, chaired by former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, was tasked with making recommendation on how the institution would be governed so that it could better fulfil its mission of overcoming global poverty, adding that the Commission held its first meeting about a month ago. 22 June 09
