Woyongo warns against smuggling of agricultural inputs

Bolgatanga, June 15, GNA - Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister has warned members of Association of Agriculture Input Dealers in the Region involved in smuggling agricultural inputs to neighbouring countries to stop their acts or be prosecuted when arrested. He gave the warning in a statement issued and signed by Mr Addul-Khassim Medjida, Public Relations Officer of Upper East Regional Coordinating Council in Bolgatanga after a meeting with the members. Mr Woyongo said Government had placed premium on agriculture and would ensure farmers were assisted to increase food production in the country.

He said Government had subsidized the cost of fertilizer to help farmers to increase food production and under the Savannah Agriculture Development Authority (SADA), some dams and dugouts would be constructed while existing ones would be de-silted to enhance agricultural production.

Mr Woyongo urged members of the association to contribute positively to achieve national agricultural targets. Mr Prince Yao Kovem, Upper East Regional Chairman of the association, assured Government of their cooperation and support. He said workshops were periodically organized by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for members on how to handle agriculture inputs. 15 June 09
