ICT essential for development - Akaaba

Tema, June 15, GNA - Mr Joe Akaaba, Acting Managing Director of Busy Internet, a private internet service provider, has stressed the need for Ghanaians to develop interest in computer literacy and be in tune with the current world of ICT. He noted that acquisition of knowledge in all fields including reading and numeracy without computer skills in this era of ICT was an incomplete form of education.

Mr Akaaba said this at a ceremony to commemorate the first anniversary of the Tema Branch of Busy Internet last weekend. "We must improve how fast we adapt to technology to create an efficient working environment and help rapid socio-economic development," he said.

Mr Akaaba also charged corporate organizations to make effective use of ICT to enhance productivity. He called on government to provide specialized training in ICT capacity building programmes for re gulators to enhance ICT services and applications in remote areas. Mr Akaaba said ICT was a catalyst for growth as well as an essential building block for development and thus urged the government to provide the private sector with the needed support to compete in the global digital era.

Mr Kwesi Nkrumah, Sales and Marketing Manager of Busy Internet, in an interview with GNA said the Tema Branch would soon commence a 24-hour service to enable client to get assess to internet all the time. He said the Tema Branch would also introduce WiFi Hotspots portable device next month to enable people with computers and cell phones to access wireless connection. "As one of our corporate goals the company would continue to render quality customer service to the nation," Mr Nkrumah added. 15 June 09
