Barclays Ghana and AED launch Education Project

Accra, May 22, GNA - Barclays Bank of Ghana and the Academy for Educational Development (AED), a non-governmental organization, have launched a A320,000 educational project to improve literacy and numeracy in the Queen of Peace Basic Schools in the Ga East District.

The Bank says the project will address literacy and numeracy teaching methods to help primary pupils to read, do Mathematics and communicate effectively.

The grant, which will benefit four schools in the Ga East District, is part of the continuing partnership between Barclays and AED. Barclays and AED commenced this partnership with a pilot programme in the Haatso Presbyterian School. Nine others schools, four in Accra and five in the Western region, have also benefited from the programme. The Managing Director of Barclays Bank of Ghana Limited, Mr Benjamin Dabrah, said Barclays was committed to quality education for all children of school going age in the country. "We will work with AED and the Ghana Education Service to improve the quality of teaching and learning in basic schools by providing teaching and learning aids."

The Executive Director of AED, Mr Stephen Manu, thanked Barclays Ghana for the support and appealed to other corporate organizations to assist AED programmes.

AED was established in 2004 to assist individuals and organizations with resources to improve upon their standard of living. It works on non-profit basis under grants and contracts in partnerships with national, state and local government agencies, foundations and corporations and community-based organization in the United States and around the world to achieve sustainable results.
