GCB introduces Zero Forex for soldiers

Bundanse (GAR), May 21, GNA - Ghana Commercial Bank has introduced "Zero Forex Account" to assist soldiers on peacekeeping operations abroad to access peacekeeping loans. The account would also enable soldiers to save their peacekeeping allowances without hitches, Mr Samuel Sarpong, Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) in-charge of Operations, said on Thursday.

Mr Sarpong, who was speaking at Bundase Military Camp at the Accra Plains to hand over a pavilion funded by Bank as part of their social responsibility to the military, urged soldiers to access this rare opportunity to avoid the challenges they faced in accessing their allowances during their peace missions. The 300 seating capacity pavilion which cost GH¢5,000.00 was constructed by the Field Engineers' Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces while GCB provided the funds.

He said it was his hope that the project would be of immense benefit to the soldiers. Mr Sarpong said this year alone GCB had donated GH¢5,000.00 to the Southern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces and GH¢2,000.00 to the Ghana Air Force to partially finance a housing project at the Air Force Pay Office.

He said the Bank recognized the unique role of the military and promised its commitment to the development programmes of the Forces. Mr Sarpong said the Bank had increased its operations by creating a higher version of the banking software that would increase the efficiency of the Bank. Maj. Gen. Joseph Adinkrah, Chief of Army Staff, thanked GCB for coming to the aid of the Ghana Armed Forces at a time the Bundase Camp needed the facility most.
