GUTA support for Secretary-Gen

Over Destination Inspection Companies WAHALA

The leadership of the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA) has rendered an apology to Mr. George Gyan, Secretary-General of the Union and also pledged their support to him over the Union's advertiser's announcement on the operations of the Destination Inspection Companies (DIC) issued by the Secretary General.

He added that he had their mandate before stating the group's position on an advertiser's announcement.

In a release signed by the Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Alpha A.Shaban, the leadership states unequivocally that its position on the operations of the Destination Inspection Companies is what was stated by the union in the advertiser's announcements in The Ghanaian Times-Page 10 of 24/4/09, The Daily Guide-Page 15 of 24/4/09, The Spectator-Page 30 of 25/4/09, Vanguard-Page 7 of 27/4/09, Daily Graphic-Page 52 of 27/4/09 editions and duly signed by its Secretary General.

According to the statement, GUTA will continue to work with the Destination Inspection Concept until such a time that anything otherwise is thoroughly discussed with GUTA as a necessary Stakeholder.

The mandate of the GUTA Secretary General to author the Advertiser's announcement referred to is duly contained in the minutes of GUTA's Executives Committee deliberations of Thursday 2nd April, 2009.

The attribution to the Secretary-General by the president as having been exposed for pursuing “….a clandestine attempt… to trade off the credibility of the union for his own selfish interest….” in some sections of the media is misleading and most unfortunate.

GUTA therefore wishes to affirm its confidence in the integrity of the Secretary General, Mr. George Gyan, thus rendering an unqualified apology for any harm that this publication might have caused him in the discharge of his duties.

For and behalf of GUTA

It would be recalled that, the President of GUTA expressed dismay about the union’s advertiser’s announcement on the position of the Destination Inspection Companies and stated that the Secretary-General had been exposed for pursuing clandestine attempts to trade off the credibility of the union for his own selfish interest in the Monday edition of the Daily Democrat Newspaper dated 27th April, 2009.  Â
