Northern Region is on high alert to manage swine flu

Tamale, May 8, GNA - Health experts in the Northern Region have assured the public that the Ministry of Health was on high alert to manage any suspected cases of swine flu.

They have appealed to the public to cooperate with health personnel by reporting any suspected case to the nearest health facility. The experts said though the country had not detected any case of the disease, it would continue to put adequate measures in place to prevent the outbreak of the disease. The experts gave the assurance in Tamale on Thursday when the Committee on Emergency Preparedness Communication on influenza H1N1 of the Ministry of Health addressed the media to assure the public on its preparedness towards any eventuality. The health experts advised the public to properly cover their noses and mouths when coughing or sneezing.

The experts advised sick persons especially those who had high fever, cough and sore throat to stay at home or visit the health facilities.

The Ghana Health Service had setup four sub-committees to meet on regular basis to brainstorm on the influenza H1N1 and the committees. These are Communication, Surveillance, Prevention containment and case management sub-committees. These sub-committees would support the implantation of the preparedness and response activities of the ministry. 0

Thunderstorms expected over northern Ghana

Accra, May 8, GNA - The weather will be cloudy with thunderstorms and rain showers over the northern sector on Friday morning. However, the middle portions of the country will be cloudy with sunny intervals but will be affected by thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to the weather forecast issued by the Ghana Meteorological Agency.

The forecast said by mid-morning, lower portions of the Volta Region would experience occasional rain shower, including parts of eastern and coastal sectors in the afternoon.

It said the coastal areas were expected to be cloudy with showers; middle sector would be misty and cloudy with thunderstorms while the northern sector would be cloudy with thunderstorms. Forecast temperatures are coastal areas between 25 and 31 degrees Celsius; middle sector between 23 and 31 degrees Celsius and northern sector between 23 and 28 degrees Celsius. 8 May 09
