Meeting on Single-Spine Pay Structure

Accra, April 30, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama has assured the Leadership of Organized Labour that a major stakeholders consultative workshop would be organized in the middle of May to discuss the eventual implementation of the Single-Spine Pay Structure. A statement signed by Mr Antwi Bosiako Sekyere, Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare said the decision was reached at a high level discussion between the Vice President and the Leadership of Organised Labour in Accra on Tuesday April 28, 2009 on matters of mutual interest.

It said issues discussed centred on the postponement of the planned inauguration of the new Pension Reform Implementation Committee and the Single-Spine Pay Structure for Public Sector employees. The statement said the Vice President explained the circumstances that led to the postponement of the inauguration and promised that arrangements would be made in the near future for its inauguration. It said Organised Labour however expressed concern over the delay in the implementation of the Single-Spine Salary Structure and the 3-tier Pension Scheme and asked that implementation of those subjects should be expedited despite the fruitful discussions between the two parties.

The Vice President promised to keep the lines of communication opened in the interest of all parties.

Present at the meeting were Mr Stephen Amoanor Kwao, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, Mr Kofi Asamoah, Secretary-General of the TUC; Mr Abraham Koomson, Secretary-General Ghana Federation of Labour, Mr James Amissah, Executive Secretary of Civil Servants Association, Mrs Irene Duncan-Adanusa, General-Secretary, Ghana National Association Teachers, and Mr Abdul Latif of JUSSAG.
