Grandmother forces child, four, to eat toilet

Akim Swedru (E/R), April 20, GNA - Adwoa Nyarkoa, 50, a farmer charged with three counts of assault, torture and degrading treatment, has been admitted to a GH¢300 bail by the Akim Swedru Circuit court in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region.

She pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on May 6, this year. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowia, that both the complainant in the case and the offender with the victim, lived at Akim Asene. The prosecutor said Nyarkoa adopted his grandson, the victim, when he was one but from last year the behaviour of Nyarkoa changed towards him.

He said, she subjected him to severe beatings at the least provocation and also kept him hungry.

On April 10, this year, the four year-old defecated in an open place at home and for his punishment, Nyarkoa compelled him to eat the toilet. Some onlookers detected the inhuman ordeal, but could not save the child, he said, until the complainant in the case bravely whisked the boy from Nyarkoa amid insults.

When the boy was washed and clothed the accused became so furious that she stripped him naked. A report was subsequently made to the Police for her arrest.
