Government should account for its stewardship every year

Kumasi, April 20, GNA - The Right-Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has admonished the government in power to account for its stewardship every year. He explained that this was necessary to ensure transparency and accountability on the part of the government to help avoid doubts in the minds of the citizenry.

This, he said, was also crucial for the effective utilization of state resources which included taxes, donor grants and minerals and how the accruing monies were spent.

Rt-Rev Frimpong-Manso was preaching at a thanksgiving service to round off the 87th Asante Presbytery Meeting of the Presbyterian Church at the Yennyawoso Congregation, in Kumasi, on Sunday. "Put On The Whole Armour of God," was the theme for the three-day meeting.

The Moderator decried the incessant problems and challenges that confront the African continent and Ghana in particular, saying in spite of the rich natural and human resources, the "same old story of hunger, poverty and diseases continue to thwart its development effort." Rt-Rev Frimpong-Manso said much of the conflicts in some parts of the country had been born of animosity based on ideological, ethnic, chieftaincy or religious differences and appealed to feuding factions to endeavour to forgive each other for whatever crimes that might have been committed for peace to prevail for the accelerated development of the areas.

He charged Christians to pray fervently to enable them be strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit that would help them stand firm in their faith in God at all times and grow into maturity. The Moderator underscored the need for the country's leaders including pastors to uphold good leadership qualities and not lord it over the people by being truthful, faithful, honest and transparent in their work.
