Sexual harassment in school contributes to indiscipline - CHRAJ
Winneba (C/R), March 2, GNA - Sexual harassment in schools contributes to indiscipline and could lead to poor academic performance, a director of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has said. Mr Richmond Mensah, Effutu Municipal Director of CHRAJ, said if not checked, sexual harassment could degenerate into attempted rape or defilement, or even lead to homo sexuality, if it is perpetrated between persons of the same sex. He was addressing students in Winneba on "Sexual Harassment" at a symposium organised by the Effutu Secretariat of the CHRAJ. More than 1,000 students drawn from Senior and Junior High schools in the area and their teachers attended.
Mr Mensah defined sexual harassment to include acts such as continuous hugging, salaciousness and tapping of buttocks, breast and other sensitive parts of the body, as well as indecent dressing. "Sexual harassment undermines human dignity and freedom from discrimination as enshrined in the Constitution," he said and condemned the practice as an "anti-social conduct by one person against the other to solicit for sexual favour".
