Schools being smeared with faeces

Mafi-Dove, Feb. 13, GNA - Academic work in Mafi-Dove in the North-Tongu district is being disrupted due to the smearing of faeces at the premises of schools in the area. The practice, which started from the Mafi-Dove Junior High School, where classroom windows, doors and staff offices were smeared with human faeces has been extended to the local Primary School. People, who have taken it upon themselves to clean the mess daily, have become fed up.

Mr Solomon Adzewoda, a teacher, who expressed concern about the situation to the Ghana News Agency said he could not determine who or those responsible for the act and the motive behind it. He said on Friday February 13, public spirited persons who normally volunteered to clean up the mess failed to turn up to clear another mess at the entrances of two classrooms, leading to the suspension of academic work, due to the offensive smell.

Mr Adzewoda said the frequency of the act was a source of worry to both teachers and pupils of the affected schools. He said the school authorities would contact opinion leaders of the community on how to address the menace. 13 Feb. 09
