National Service Personnel warned

Ho, Feb. 5, GNA - The Volta Regional Secretariat of National Service Scheme (NSS) has warned service personnel against absenteeism during their service.

Mr Ken Gyenfi, Volta Regional Director of NSS gave the warning at an orientation course for service personnel and volunteers at Ho. Personnel were taken through rules and regulations of the Scheme and a power point presentation on HIV/AIDS.

He said the Secretariat was mounting an intensive monitoring mechanism to check absenteeism among personnel at work places and those found culpable could have their service certificates seized. Mr Gyenfi noted that some truant personnel took the scheme for granted, and such an attitude would no longer be tolerated. He urged Co-ordinators of the scheme to instil its "core and noble objectives" of discipline, nationalism and altruistic values into personnel.

Mr Gyenfi appealed to personnel to accept postings to deprived areas to help national reconstruction. Reverend Samuel A. Amankwah, Volta Regional Director of Education asked personnel to be humble and reminded them of the humility of Jesus Christ.

He advised them to show respect to authority and the chain of command at the Secretariat and their workplace instead using radio stations as avenues to seek redress. Mr Michael Tottime, Ho Municipal Director of NSS said five personnel in the metropolis had been identified not reporting for work regularly without permission and said they risked losing their certificates.
