10th anniversary of Asantehene's ascension to be launched

Accra, Jan. 21, GNA - The 10th anniversary of the ascension to the Golden Stool of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will officially be launched at the Manhya Palace in Kumasi on February 12. A statement issued on Wednesday by the Planning Committee chaired by Juabenhene Nana Otuo Siriboe II said events would start in February with a Remembrance Service for the late Otumfuo Opoku Ware II to be climaxed by the great Akwasidaekese on April 26 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

It said Otumfuo Osei Tutu would honour some of Africa's past leaders who hosted him over the 10-year period and also welcome to Ghana some of the eminent kings and traditional rulers from various parts of Africa.

Other activities lined up are a football gala among four premier league clubs, a photo exhibition, a film on the achievements of Otumfuo Osei Tutu a choral music festival and Nnwomkro music competition. The rest are quiz, essay and debate competitions among schools in the Ashanti Region, an awards dinner/dance night, and a choral music festival.

The statement said a Souvenir Book on Otumfuo Osei Tutu's 10-year reign as Asantehene will also be launched at a special ceremony. It said President John Atta Mills will be invited as the Special Guest of Honour at the celebrations.
