Chinese business community gives to orphanages

Accra, Dec. 24, GNA - The Ghana-Chinese Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday donated items worth over GH¢ 3,500 to two orphanages as expression of love in the Christmas season. The items, including four bags of rice, assorted Chinese fruit drinks, biscuits, two 21-inch colour television sets and Milo were received by Ms Naomi Esi Amoah, Director of the Royal Seed Orphanage Home in Agona Swedru in the Central Region and Pastor Issadam Annabi, Director of the Volta Home Orphanage in the Volta Region. The presentation held in Accra is also an annual gesture by the Ghana-Chinese Chamber of Commerce to support the less privileged and needy children in society.

Mrs Tang Guizhi, Wife of the Chinese Ambassador in Ghana, who chaired the ceremony, noted that children carried the hope of the society and expressed concern that some children still suffered hunger, mistreatment and other kind of hardship. She said the donation was not only meant to be a Christmas and New Year gift but also embodied the affection and best wishes from the Chinese business community in Ghana.

"I wish that the gifts could bring more happiness for the children and the orphanages during this festive season," Mrs Tang, popularly called Madam Yu said and pointed out that the culture of sharing business success with the Ghanaian local communities has been cultivated among many Chinese businessmen and women. Madam Yu urged members of the Chamber to continue to promote the friendship between Chinese and Ghanaians. Mr Su Yue-hua, President of the Chamber, said his organization had been committed to strengthening friendship and cultural exchange between the two countries as well as the promotion and development of trade. "There is no doubt that we always think of those who are not living happily, especially during Christmas and New Year seasons, we are also concerned about those who need help in society because we know that it is our responsibility as human beings." Mrs Abena Acheampong, General Manager of the Student and Youth Travel Organization (SYTO), a non-profit making travel and tour organization that aims at giving students and children exposure through oversees travels and domestic tourism, expressed the hope that the donation would serve the purpose for which it was made.
