Kufuor expresses confidence in Akufo-Addo

Kumasi, Sept. 9, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday expressed confidence in the capabilities of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Flag bearer of the NPP to consolidate achievements of the NPP Government over the past seven years.

He therefore, called on chiefs and people of Asanteman to support Nana Akufo-Addo to win Election 2008 to move the nation forward. President Kufuor made the expression when he officially introduced Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, NPP Running Mate to Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, Asantehene at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

He said Nana Akufo-Addo had contributed immensely to the success and achievements of the NPP Government, stressing that, Nana Akufo-Addo was the most capable person to succeed him to build on the sound socio-economic foundation that had been laid.

President Kufuor bid farewell to Asantehene and chiefs of Asanteman and expressed appreciation for their unflinching support during his tenure and appealed to them to give the same support to Nana Akufo-Addo, when elected President of Ghana.

Nana Akufo-Addo said one of his priorities when elected President, would be to harness the significant role of the chieftaincy institution to promote good governance and socio-economic development, especially at the local levels.

He pledged to work to ensure that democratic rule and principles were entrenched in the country.

Nana Akufo-Addo called on the chiefs to support him in Election 2008 to consolidate democracy, which was the cardinal objective of the Founding Fathers of the nation.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu commended President Kufuor for the hard work which had moved the nation forward and pledged the commitment of Asanteman to honour him after his tenure of office. He advised Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia to be humble and faithful at all times.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said Ghanaians were looking for improvement in education, health, employment and provision of basic social amenities and urged politicians to explain how they could work to achieve these to the electorate to win their sympathy and votes.
