Road contractors sign MOU with British spare parts company

Accra, Sept. 5, GNA - Trades Maintenance and Service (TMS) of the United Kingdom Limited, international spare parts specialists, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Progressive Road Contractors Association (PROCA) for the acquisition of a variety of equipment to speed up work on road construction. Mr. Michel Aidoo, President of PROCA, signed for his organisation, while Mr John Rogerson, Managing Director of TMS, signed for his company.

Under the MOU, PROCA is expected to acquire equipment worth 20 million Euros. The association would be required to make 15 per cent deposit while the rest of the amount is spread over two years. The equipment include earth moving machines, cranes, forklift trucks, engines and drilling machines. Mr Aidoo said recently, 20 of its 400 members toured Belgium and Holland to acquaint themselves with some of the operations of TMS, which has offices located in over 30 countries.

He noted that the hiring and purchasing of equipment had often delayed the work of contractors, noting that, the equipment would assist its members to complete their work on schedule. According to him, road construction depended on effective personnel, technical know-how and equipment, noting that without these there would be delays in their operations. "If you have good equipment you are able to complete your work on schedule devoid of criticisms from the public." Mr Rogerson was optimistic that the contract would assist road contractors in their operations. 5 Sept. 08
