Bosomtwe District Assembly approves 30 per cent of DACF for NYEP

Kokoado-Ashanti, July 13, GNA - Bosomtwe District Assembly has approved 30 per cent of its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) amounting to 317,054 Ghana cedis for the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).

The assembly had GH¢ 10,568,463,000 as its share of the fund. Mr James Fosu, Bosomtwe District Chief Executive who announced this at a special meeting at Kokoado-Ashanti said the fund would be used in three thematic areas that included private sector development, human resource development, good governance and civic responsibilities. On education, he said the assembly would construct three dining halls with offices, kitchens and stores at Kuntenase, Nyamiani and Sawua at a cost of GH¢ 63,729.51 in addition to a four-unit bedroom teachers' quarters at Obbo.

Mr Fosu said five communities, Esreso, Jachie, Aputuogya and Kuntenase would benefit from the extension of electricity to improve their living standards.

He said a new cassava processing machine would be installed at Bonkoko at a cost of GH¢ 6,000 to process cassava in the surrounding communities to reduce post harvest losses. On security, Mr Fosu said the assembly voted 60,000 Ghana cedis to complete the two-storey district police administration offices at Kuntenase that had reached the roofing level.

The assembly agreed to construct speed ramps in communities along the road leading to Lake Bosomtwe to help reduce accidents especially during festive occasions.

Mr Charles K. Dondieu, Bosomtwe District Coordinating Director called for closer collaboration between assembly members and the staff to promote unity, progress and development. He expressed concern about allegations made by some People with Disabilities (PWD's) in the district to demand their share of the common fund and said it was not a gift but to empower them to be self-employed and avoid begging for alms on the streets.

Mr Joseph Akwasi Assuming, Presiding Member of the assembly called on the members to seek the total development of the district instead of seeking their selfish and individual gains. He called for collaboration and unity among members and staff of the assembly to enhance their development agenda, and educate the people on the need to pay their taxes regularly.
