JAK & Nana are registered Lawyers - GBA

The President of the Ghana Bar Association, Nii Osah Mills, has confirmed that the New Patriotic Party flag-bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo and President Kufour are qualified Lawyers registered with the Association.

He said the GBA recognizes President Kufuor and Nana Addo as members who were called to the Ghana Bar. According to him their qualification to the Bar was based on the pertaining requirement needed to be admitted to the bar at their time since the requirements varies as time goes on.

Nii Osah Mills was speaking on Adom Dwaso Nsem to clarify the point as to whether Nana Addo is a qualified Lawyer or not.

He said one does not necessarily need to have a first degree in Law in order to qualify as a Lawyer.

He said currently a person having obtained a first degree in any discipline could go to the Ghana Law School in Accra, and after completion could be called to the bar.

He emphasized that the General Legal Council is the sole body in the country which determines who can practice as a Lawyer in Ghana or can be called to the Bar.

He added that if you are a Lawyer permitted to practice in Ghana, your name is entered into the register of lawyers which is available at the offices of the General Legal Council located at the Ghana Law School.

The GBA President said he believes President Kufuor and Nana Addo were called to the Ghana Bar based on the requirement at the time and therefore anybody who doubts the veracity of their qualification can check from the offices of the General Legal Council.

The former First Lady at a forum with the Greater Accra wing of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network of the NDC in Accra on Tuesday said Nana Addo had for too long been “lying about his own capacity and capabilities.”

According to her, Nana Addo never trained as a Lawyer because “He did not go to any law school.
