Bishop urges prophets of doom to change their mind

Apam, April. 6, GNA- The Bishop of the Winneba Methodist diocese, Rev. Dr. Joseph Kow Ghunney has urged prophets of doom, who are predicting calamity for the nation to change their prophecies for the better.

He said nobody should think of war in the country because it not a good thing for Ghana, "we must rather prophesy peace, harmony and trouble free nation to enhance its development.

Bishop Ghunney said he had travelled to about five war-torn countries in Africa and the devastation in these countries was very depressing.

He was addressing a three-day 47th annual Synod of the Winneba Diocese of the Methodist Church at Apam in the Central Region on Friday, which was attended by the 18 circuits of the diocese.

He used the occasion to advise the prophets of doom, who have started predicting calamity on the nation to desist from the practice. Bishop Ghunney noted that the devastating effect of war due to elections "must not be expected for Ghana".

He called on the flag bearers of all the political parties to be circumspect in their pronouncements so as not to inflame the emotions and passions of people towards conflict.

He asked the Electoral Commissioner to create a level ground for transparent, free and fair elections and called on Christians to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during the elections. The Bishop said nine Bishops would be elected and confirmed at this year's Conference of the Methodist Church to be held in Winneba in a couple of weeks. The Conference would also elect a new Presiding Bishop and lay President of the Church respectively.
