Edubiasehene celebrates 80th birthday

New Edubiase (Ash), April 5, GNA - Nana Assiama Guagyia Ababio, chief of Edubiase and acting president of the Adansi Traditional Council, has celebrated his 80th birthday at his 'Daadom' Lodge at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District.

Nana Ababio, known in private life as Mr George Bright Abu, was enstooled Edubiasehene in 1964.

The occasion was witnessed by dignitaries including the Right-Reverend Benjamin Asare, Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, Mr Francis Dorpenyoh, the District Chief Executive, Mr Justice Boateng, a former Minister of State and Mrs Theresa Baffoe, former Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase.

Nana Ababio who is currently chairman of the Board of Governors of the Obuasi Senior/Technical School, also served in some public institutions, boards and corporations in the past. These included his election as First Vice-President of African Purchasing and Supplies Association in 1976.

He was instrumental in the opening of Ghana Commercial and Agricultural Development banks and the construction of the District Hospital at New Edubiase, as well as the creation of Adansi South District Assembly.

Speaking at a reception as part of activities marking the occasion, Nana Ababio appealed to his people to live in peace and co-operate with one another to speed up the development of the area, noting that it was only through peaceful co-existence that a community could progress.
