GFA members want to stay without elections

The Ghana Football Association led by Kwasi Nyantakyi is seeking to extend its stay in office by postponing elections for ONE YEAR.

The Nyantakyi-led administration's term of office expires in December 2009 but it wants the election put off until January 2011

The 21-man committee will write to the GFA Congress to table the notion of the extension of their mandate without election.

The committee claims that rescheduling of the election would enable the FA to concentrate on the 2010 World Cup with the usual disruptions that accompanies elections.

''In fact, there is a strong belief that the abysmal performance of the Black Stars in the 2006 Nations Cup was as a result of the over-concentration of all the forces on the last elections,'' Chairman of the Greater Accra Football Association, Jordan Anagbla, told the Graphic Sports newspaper.

Legal implications restrain the Committee to fix the elections earlier than the stipulated mandate.

The Executive Committee's say their proposal was based on the the Fifa presidential elections in 2003.

The contest involving Sepp Blatter and Alhaji Issah Hayatou was shifted a year later due to the 2002 World Cup.
