Rainstorm damages buildings, 400 persons displaced

Nkoranza (B/A), March 20, GNA - A severe rainstorm has hit Yefri in Nkoranza North district of Brong-Ahafo and ripped off the roofs of six buildings including two churches and displaced more than 400 residents. Some electricity poles and cables were also destroyed.

The buildings of the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Olumba-Olumba and the residence of Miss Christiana Gyasi, head teacher of the Methodist Primary School were among the affected buildings. Miss Constance Naana Konadu, Yefri zonal coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that the displaced were staying with friends and relatives.

She estimated the damage to be several hundreds of Cedis. Miss Konadu said the community was plunged into darkness, following the destruction of the electricity poles and this was affecting security of the area and appealed to the Volta River Authority to help restore power.
