Omatek Computers to generate youth employment

Accra, March 19, GNA - Omatek Computers, Africa's foremost computer brand, says it is poised to boost employment, especially of the youth in the Information and communication Technology sector in Ghana. Mrs Florence Seriki, Managing Director of the company, told the Ghana News Agency that the company would train and employ young computer graduates as part of its contribution to Ghana's economic development. The company recently commissioned a computer hardware assembly plant in Accra.

Mrs Seriki said Omatek would also promote technology transfer and know-how to the Ghanaian youth.

"One of the benefits that would accrue to country was youth recruitment and empowerment in the IT sector," she said. Mrs Seriki said the location of the factory in Ghana would permit the building of synergy through the signing of Memorandum Of Understanding with various educational institutions on Research and Development.

Besides, resource centres and laboratory, which would equally serve as service centre for the company's computers, would be established within various university premises.

The company has plans to recruit and engage Industrial interns from the universities and this will afford the students hands-on experience on basic repairs and maintenance of computers. Mrs Seriki expressed the hope that institutions in the country would take advantage of the initiative to enhance capabilities across board.

Experts in ICT said the commissioning of the factory would boost the drive towards achieving ICT density and use in the country. Government plans to deepen computer penetration in the country to more than 100,000 systems this year and experts say the new factory would assist in no small measure in achieving that target.

Omatek Computers was established 21 years ago as an executive computer training company. It later transformed into computer sales, thereby becoming a premium partner of major companies.

It is the first completely Knocked Down computer Factory in Africa with its factories in both Ghana and Nigeria.
