Civil engineering company says Job 600 is solid

Accra, Jan 29, GNA- Mr Addo Abedi, Managing Director of Twum Boafo and Partners, a civil engineering company, said the tower block of the State House, popularly called Job 600, was solid and when rehabilitated, it could serve as offices for Parliament.

He told the Leadership of the House on Tuesday, at the presentation of a report of the assessment of the building that the exercise covered the basement and all the 12 floors of the building. Mr Abedi said the steel reinforcement, the columns, the drainage system, partitions, the concrete strength, steel works and the roofing systems were also assessed.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi Hughes, assured the company that the House would study its report that made a number of recommendations for the refurbishment of the building. Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Abraham Ossei Aidooh, who convened the meeting, said an eight-member parliamentary committee set up last June to examine the refurbishment of the tower block, called for the assessment. He said the Committee intended to expedite action on the recommendations.

The building was put up more than 40 years ago, and the Company was tasked in November last year to assess its firmness or solidity.
