LOC commended for showcasing Ghanaian cultural heritage

Essienimpong, (Ash), Jan 22, GNA - Nana Kwaku Bio, Chief of Essienimpong in the Ejisu-Juaben District of Ashanti Region has commended the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the CAN 2008 soccer tournament for effectively showcasing Ghanaian cultural heritage during the opening ceremony at Accra on Sunday.

He expressed happiness at the way and manner some of the major Ghanaian different ethnic groups blended as they drummed and danced to showcase the rich cultural effects of the country to the whole world. Nana Bio made the commendation in an interview with the GNA Sports at Essienimpong after the display of varieties of the Ghanaian traditional drumming and dancing at the ceremony. He said the blending of the different unique traditional cultural heritage should unite Ghanaians and Africans more than ever before. Nana Bio said such rich culture at national ceremonies like the CAN 2008 should not be a one-day wonder but it should form part of the daily activities.

He urged Ghanaian workers to wear their exquisite traditional dresses on Fridays at this period of the tournament to depict the proud culture to the various foreigners in the country. Nana Bio also commended the Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relations for the preparations they have so far made to make the country's tourist centres more attractive to the numerous sports fans at the tournament.

He advised the youth to take keen interest in learning the rich cultural activities from their traditional leaders so that they would be better informed to relate to the next generation. Nana Bio entreated parents to encourage their wards to undertake studies of cultural-related subjects in schools so as to enhance their knowledge of their rich cultures.
