Today's victory is decisive - Le Roy

Accra, Jan. 20, GNA - Ghana's coach, Claude Le Roy has said that the Black Stars 2-1 win over Guinea in the opener of the 26th Africa Cup of Nations was a decisive factor in the Team's dream of lifting the trophy.

The Coach told the media after the match that starting the biennial event on such a note had been the Team's dream from the very beginning. "It was very important for us to begin like this, because the confidence this victory has given us is part of the things we needed to keep our dream alive.

"We expected a complicated game because we appreciate the quality of our opponents but we were also sure of getting the three points in the end."

A late sterling goal from Sulley Ali Muntari made the difference for the Black Stars, who had an ordinary day. The Frenchman, however, believes his side sold out a perfect game fit for the level of opposition presented by the Guineans, who are ranked third on the Continent.

"The quality of our game was perfect and we will seek to keep that feature for the rest of the matches."

Ghana is chasing her fifth Nations Cup glory that would equal Egypt's record at the continental party. Le Roy paid tribute to the Guineans, who held their own until Muntari struck.

Ghana will next play Namibia on Thursday at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
