Tema CEPS exceeds 2007 revenue target

Tema, Jan 20, GNA - The Tema Collection of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) collected GH=A21,247,188,098.00 cedis in 2007, the Sector Commander, Alhaji Mohammed Nasirudeen, said at an annual get-together and awards night in Tema.
The amount represents 0.41 percent increase over the previous year. Alhaji Nasirudeen said the Collection did not compromise revenue "thereby recovering short collections and penalties amounting to =A229,590,400,500 while it was also vigilant on fake documentation and other fraudulent deals.
He entreated the staff to continue working with dedication and commitment to exceed the revenue target that would be set for them. According to him, the Tema sector collects 80 percent of the entire revenue allocated to the Service and about 40 percent of national revenue.
He expressed gratitude to stakeholders at the port, whose "cordiality", he said, paved way for smooth operations. Mr Paul Adubofuor, Deputy Commissioner of CEPS in charge of Human Resource and Administration, commended the officers and staff for the achievement and encouraged them to give off their best in the ensuing year.
Mr Gordon Anim, Director of Tema Port, occasion called on operators at the port to put in their best to enable it maintain its lead as the preferred port in the sub-region. Some personnel received prizes for meritorious duty with the overall best worker award in the junior rank division going to Mr Vincent Ofei Duodu while Mr Fecin Y. Akoto took that of the senior division.
