People of Busunya regulate funerals

Busunya (B/A), Jan 16, GNA - The people of Busunya have resolved to perform funerals once every month to avoid the waste of working days. "We have decided to regulate how we go about our funeral activities so that it does not take much of our time, which inadvertently affects our livelihood", Nana Okofo Nyarko Gyabaa, chief of the area, told the Ghana News Agency.

He said family heads would therefore have to wait for a month or beyond before performing the final funeral rites. "As a result three or four separate funerals can be held at the end of a particular month so that non-residents can visit home and team up with residents to organize such funerals once, instead of their weekly visits for funerals.

Nana Nyarko said 86 deaths were recorded in the area last year and if there had not been this regulation, the people would have spent much of their time on them. He said heads of families had also been advised against the organization of expensive funerals and urged parents to check the attendance of their children at funerals, video shows, dance and concerts.
