School to add value to raw diamonds opens

Accra, Jan. 3, GNA - Natural Diamond Training Institute has been established in Accra to teach Ghanaians how to add value to natural diamonds to enable the country to earn more foreign exchange. Speaking to GNA, T. Raj Maheswaran, Director of the Institute, said students were taught the identification of raw diamonds; cutting; polishing; separation, assortment and grading of diamonds. The Institute, which is located at Sue's Inn on the Achimota - Tema Motorway, runs a two-month intensive course for senior secondary school graduates.

Raj Maheswaran said graduates of the Institute were also taught the marketing of diamonds and equipped to establish their own companies. He said the Institute was the first of its kind in Africa and was opened to students from the West Africa Sub Region.
