Enyiresi Hospital appeals for an ambulance

Enyiresi (E/R), Dec. 1, GNA- The Medical Superintendent of the Enyiresi Government Hospital, Dr Francis Kofi Annang, has appealed for an ambulance to enable the hospital carry out its operations effectively, He said the health facility situated on the Accra-Kumasi highway, receive accident cases regularly, but most of the victims who may need further medical attention die due to the lack of an ambulance. Dr Annang disclosed this at the first Open Day of the hospital, since it was taken over by the government last year, at Enyiresi on Friday.

He explained that, due to the location of the facility, it records an average of five road accidents victims being brought to the facility every week, some of which require urgent referrals to other hospitals for further medical attention. Dr Annang said despite the lack of sufficient staffing, the management of the hospital had been able to put up an emergency team who sleep there to help in emergency situations and also appealed for accommodation.

He said the management has also established the Enyiresi Government Hospital Development Fund to help in the development of the hospital and appealed to citizens of Enyiresi both at home and abroad as well as philanthropists to donate to it.

The District Chief Executive of Atiwa, Mr Kwasi Osei-Agyepong appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to provide the necessary logistics to help develop the hospital that could be compared to any other in any part of the country.

He said the location of the hospital on the Accra-Kumasi-Bukina Faso road and the fact that it is the only one in the new Atiwa district makes the appeal very important for consideration. Mr Osei-Agyepong said the District Assembly had awarded a contract for the construction of a 12-seater water closet toilet facility with bathrooms and urinals to help solve the sanitation problem facing the hospital.

He said the assembly is also making efforts to provide high capacity overhead water tanks to help solve the irregular water flow in the hospital.

Mr Osei-Agyepong appealed to property owners in Enyiresi, Akyem Sekyere and Anyinam to rent their facilities to the hospital to enable it to provide decent accommodation for the staff. The Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah appealed to the Director General of the GHS and the Minister of Health 'to seek financial clearance to enable some few hands to be employed to support the work of the hospital".
