Police identify three gangster groups in Kumasi

Kumasi, Nov. 30, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Police Command have identified three gangster groups located at Asawasi, Ashanti New Town and Batama and they are believed to be causing mayhem in the metropolis. The groups are said to specialize in using machetes and other deadly weapons in their operations.

The Acting Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Seth Oteng, told a press conference on Thursday that some of the Bantama group members are Kwame Appiah, the leader, Kwadwo Poku, Dauda, Marcus, Moses Gyempeh and Agyankugya. He said whilst the Asawasi group was identified in 2004, the others were found out this year and that the Bantama gangsters were suspected to have murdered one Jordan Osei Yaw, the 26 year-old trader, at South Suntreso last Saturday.

Police have not arrested any of the members. Mr. Oteng said in the course of attacking Jordan Osei Yaw, Poku got wounded and was taken Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Nobody suspected them of having committed any crime though their outfits were stained with blood and they told the medical officers that Poku sustained the injury in a fight. He was treated and discharged the next day.
