UCC to offer courses in professional banking

Professor Samuel Adjepong, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), on Tuesday announced that the UCC would soon offer a course in professional banking.

He said the university is in dialogue with banking institutions in the country to solicit their expertise to facilitate the implementation of the decision.

Prof. Adjepong was speaking after officials of the Standard Chartered Bank Ghana LTD, on behalf of the bank, presented communication equipment valued 25 million cedis to the university.

The items include a power mixer, sharp CD player, power amplifier, automatic voltage regulator, microphones and a microphone stand.

The Vice-Chancellor said the programme, when started, will help in the training of more qualified personnel to work in the banks and enhance a "strong private sector partnership between the bank and the university".

He commended the bank for the kind gesture and for its assistance to the development of tertiary education in the country as a whole, and gave the assurance that the items would be put to good use. Mr Isaac Palomeras, Regional Sales and Service Manager of the bank, who presented the items, noted that government alone cannot meet the developmental needs of the people.

He said it therefore behoved the private sector, including financial institutions, to assist in improving key sectors of the economy such as health and education to enable them to work efficiently.

Mr Reginald Otoo, branch Sales and Service Manager of the bank, said his outfit has plans to computerise its operations nation-wide to ensure quality services.
