Sunyani: Muslims celebrate Eid El Fitr

Sunyani, Oct. 13, GNA - Alhaji Umar Abdul Kadir, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chief Imam, on Saturday appealed to Muslim communities to live as one family and avoid chaotic scenes due to political differences. He said this would help erase the perception by many that the Islamic religion was noted for violence and chaos. Alhaji Kadir was addressing more than 3,000 Muslims to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr in Sunyani.

He commended the government for the prevailing peace and stability in the country and urged Ghanaians to co-exist peacefully to sustain the peace for accelerated national development. The Chief Imam advised Muslim parents to take advantage of the government's laudable educational policies and enrol their children, particularly girls, in schools to reduce the alarming rate of early marriages in their communities.

Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Regional Minister, donated GHC200 (two million cedis) towards the festivities.
