Netherlands provides additional support for urban water

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA - Ms Lidi Remelzwaal, Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, on Wednesday said his outfit was considering an additional 10 million Euros support for urban water supply in Ghana through the World Bank.

She noted that urban water supply was an important area in the development of any country and pledged her country's continued support towards the projects.

Ms Remelzwaal said this when she paid a courtesy call on Mr Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing in his office in Accra. She said the Embassy was currently focusing on the Central Region and mentioned Kwanyarko, Winneba, Bafikrom and Cape Coast water systems as some of the projects the Embassy was undertaking. Mr Boniface commended the Embassy for the support, noting that the Netherlands government had been of tremendous assistance to his Ministry over the years and had so far spent about 372 million euros on the projects.

He urged the Ambassador to spread the projects to other parts of the country, which were also deprived of good drinking water. Mr Boniface said the Ministry would call for the review of the management services when the need arose to ensure value for money in the execution of the projects.

The Minister reminded the Ambassador about an application for 13 million euros submitted by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for the Assin Fosu water project to which there had not yet been any response.
