Let's Appreciate Differences In Opinions - Atta Mills

Accra, Aug. 28, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills on Tuesday reiterated that members of the NDC must be accommodating of ideas that may not be in sync with theirs.

Meeting with the New York Chapter of the NDC on Sunday on his tour of the US, Prof Mills said with his believe that politics could be played above board that was why he had consistently maintained that it was impossible for all human beings to think alike.

He said; "those who are able to accommodate opinions that run contrary to theirs, who end up standing tall in society." According to the NDC Presidential Candidate, it was only "when the NDC is able to listen to, and accommodate, other opinion (positive ones of course), that the party would shape better its policies and ideas and be able to give Ghanaians the kind of leadership they deserve." "Let's appreciate differences in opinion" Prof Mills said. Drawing from his almost 30 years of teaching as well as his collective experience as the Head of Ghana's Internal Revenue Service and being Vice President of the Republic, Prof Mills said that his ability to give an ear to all those who needed to be heard, in no small way helped him climb the ropes.

"We must not consider our political opponents as enemies and therefore shut our ears to everything they say. In as much as we differ in political line of thought, we would be doing ourselves a very great disservice if we obstinately refuse to listen to the other sides of the political divide," Prof. Mills said.

The NDC Presidential Candidate said that there was no way he would Head an NDC government that would adopt the arrogant, "Let them have their say but we would have our way" politics of exclusion mentality because "A president has to be a president of the nation and not a president of a political party".

On behalf of the tri-state NDC, Dr. J.S Annan, a leading member of the party and an aspiring NDC candidate for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Constituency, thanked the NDC Presidential Candidate for the able manner in which he was leading the party and the words of wisdom that he continued to share with, not only NDC members, but with Ghanaians in general.

Dr. Annan said the tri-states Chapters of the NDC had been monitoring with keen interest the activities of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills since he arrived in the United Sates, and that they were very much energized.

"We have been monitoring your extremely innovative house-to-house campaign back home and if your hectic schedule here in the United States, as well as the nation-building messages you have been espousing, is anything to go by, then nothing is going to stop us from supporting you, and getting our kith and kin back home, to also stretch every sinew to give you the mandate to rebuild our nation Ghana" Dr. Annan said.

Mr Mustapha Ahmed, Vice Chairman, New York Chapter, and International Liaison Officer for the North American Chapter, Bismarck Agbemenule, Organiser, New York Chapter, Osborn Sam, General Secretary, Sandy Amoyaw, Treasurer, New York, and Untie Sarah Okakwei, Dr. Lamptey, Lawyer William Antwi, Teddy Kudaya and Asimau Sheriff, all leading members of the NDC in New York, were amongst those present. 28 Aug. 07
