Bartels to retire from politics

Mr. Kwamena Bartels, MP for Ablekuma North and Minister for the Interior The Minister of the Interior Hon. Kwamena Bartels, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North says he will no more contest his parliamentary seat when his current mandate comes to an end in December 2008.He has also indicated his intention to retire from politics and concentrate on farming.
Hon. Bartels who was speaking in an interview with The Chronicle in Accra recently said working for the government as a minister was very stressful and that he wants to retire early to enjoy his retirement. The decision would also give chance to the youth who are yearning for leadership position in the country.
Responding to why he was quitting at this stage that democracy was growing in the country and his expertise needed, Hon. Bartels noted that the government had laid a very good foundation for anyone who would take over the reign of the country.
“I think this is the right time for us to give chance to the youth and render our support from behind because the future lies in their hands”, he said
Also the MP for Ablekuma South, he pointed out that even though farming is a difficult venture, it was not like “working for government where you would always have to be in a hurry to meet deadlines”.
Hon. Bartels said that the decision to become a well-noted farmer in Ghana was the best, since he would also be contributing his quota towards the development of the nation through another channel.
