Latest assassination case heightens apprehension

Kumasi, Aug 7, GNA - The murder of a security man at Ohwim near Barekese in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti has heightened feelings of trepidation and insecurity among residents in the region.

In what has become the latest of a series of armed robbery cases in the region, Emmanuel Atiso was also gunned down in cold blood by an unidentified assailant on Monday, barely two days after the bizarre killing of a 49-year-old employee of the Ghana Water Company Limited in Kumasi.

Atiso, an employee of Peace Security Company in Kumasi, was shot in the right rib in the precincts of Isaac Owusu-Ansah Company Limited, dealers in iron rods and cement.

The gunman made away with unspecified amount of cash from the company's shop after killing Atiso, according to information gathered by the Ghana News Agency.

After committing the crime, the person reportedly disappeared into a nearby bush and was yet to be apprehended by the police, who have mounted a vigorous search in Kumasi and Barekese.

Inspector Yussif Mohammed Tanko of the Police Regional Public Relations Unit, said investigations were ongoing.

The body of Atiso has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
